Cue David Bowie. This legendary musician, fashion icon, and extraordinary human transcended us to a different level of consciousness. Bowie pressed us to look beyond the obvious, invite in the “weird” and be open to what each person has to offer creatively to this universe. A career that spans over 50+ years, filled with 26 albums, 11 singles and 51 music videos, offers up some of the most iconic looks in fashion history that are inspirational to say the least.
As Bowie’s persona morphed throughout the years, society got a glimpse of a man not afraid to show off and shape up. From escaping into the Labyrinth with Jareth, The Goblin King, to traveling through an androgynous alien rock star moment in Ziggy Stardust, Bowie set the tone for form-fitting fashion. Testing the limits, raising eyebrows, and creating a new area in the realm of the unknown, Bowie shared his comfort within his body with the world. Form-hugging bodysuits, pops of color and a strong influence by Japanese fashion, Bowie opened our eyes, our closets and our extraterrestrial fashion minds.
As we promote body-positive shapewear, we can’t help but thank Bowie for sharing his self-confidence and for giving us a new creative outlook on life. Creative genius he was, he saw no boundaries and no limitations.
Forever fashion fearless, we are pretty sure Bowie would have even tried a body shaper slip. What do you think?
You remind me of the babe. What babe? The babe with the power.
DB, you will always be the babe with the power….the magic power.
